Shadows cloudy
familiar shadows
disturb life's useful hum
The sun with a different sort of face
hardens our soil
Impenetrable
walled to hide blank space
Time simply disguised
dissolves
photographs unfolded
in a clouded mind
Places
once central
pushed outside
To rewind, reexamine,
still left behind
Useless chapters
unfinished, unmeaning
tell a blank story
of missing dreams
A refrain of laughter
sung from the decades
Perennially tricolor
rising into wispy memory
from which cyclones came
Fall streaks
evaporating
before ever landing
